5-Step Session Timeline

Setting Goals & Overcoming Blocks

We kick off by looking at where you’re at and what you want to achieve. Whether it’s finishing a track or breaking out of a creative block, we tailor the session around your goals so you leave with clarity.

Arrangement & Songwriting

We break down your track’s structure, flow, and melodies. Hooks, drops, or transitions, if it’s feeling stuck, we’ll work on it together to make your track more dynamic and engaging.

Sound Design & Music Theory

We dive into your synths, basslines, and drums. I’ll show you sound design techniques and practical music theory tips that actually apply to your track, without getting too technical.

Mixing & Finishing Tracks

We focus on clarity, balance, and impact making your drums punch, your bass hit, and the track sound cohesive. I’ll also share strategies to finish tracks efficiently, even when you feel stuck.

Actionable Next Steps & Bonus Insight

We wrap up with a clear plan to move forward. You’ll leave with practical steps, workflow tips, and confidence in your decisions. If there’s time, we also cover inspiration, workflow habits, and industry advice to help you grow as a producer.

About Me

Hi, I’m 5X (or Peter if you prefer). I’m a Drum & Bass producer and educator with 8+ years of experience, focused on helping producers finish stronger, more confident, and more release-ready music.

Key experience & background:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music Production — First Class Honours (Leeds Beckett University)
  • Extended Diploma in Music Production (Distinction) – Access Creative College
  • 7M+ streams across releases
  • Supported artists including Andy C, Wilkinson, Kanine, Disrupta, Crossy, Lens, Harriet Jaxxon, Diagnostix, Kara, FMS, Nersha and more
  • Worked directly with artists such as Dimension, Pirapus, Raphaella, IN PARALLEL, Grace Barton, blkout., Changing Faces, Krasia, LICIA, RIENK, MXTR, Feed The Fire
  • Releases on High Tea, Dark Machine Records, Wobbles & Waffles, Pure Filth, among others
  • Taught 100+ students over the past two years

What separates me from other tutors isn’t just experience, it’s how I work with people. I’m very down to earth, and I care a lot about building a genuine connection with the producers I teach. A lot of my sessions naturally run over time, not because I have to, but because we end up talking about music, influences, the industry, and where you actually want to take your sound. Music is personal, and I think teaching it should be too.

I also know what it feels like to be stuck whether that’s finishing tracks, second-guessing mixes, or simply not trusting your own decisions. Most of the time, the answers are already there. My role is to help you see things more clearly, give you the right nudge at the right moment, and help you move forward with confidence instead of doubt.

A bit more about my past production journey, it has also been deliberately broad. I started making EDM back in 2017, before moving into rap production in 2018. During that period, I built a YouTube beat channel to over 2,000 subscribers and accumulated 500k+ streams, with placements on platforms such as GRM Daily, Mixtape Madness, Link Up TV and others. In 2021, I fully pivoted into drum & bass. That background across multiple genres has shaped how I approach sound design, arrangement, and workflow and it allows me to adapt my teaching to different styles, influences, and ways of thinking.

At the end of the day, these sessions aren’t about me telling you what to do or forcing a “correct” way of making music. They’re about understanding where you’re at, what you’re aiming for, and helping you close that gap in a way that feels natural to you. Whether you’re early on or already releasing music, my goal is for you to leave the session with clarity, direction, and a renewed belief in your own sound.

Testimonials

MXTR

"Peter was my first ever tutor, many moons ago, and he helped put me on the right path to learning the foundations of not only creating music, but developing a clear sonic identity. At a time when I didn’t really know how to learn production, he gave me a proper framework – from understanding sound selection and arrangement, to critical listening and finishing tracks with intention. More importantly, he taught me how to think like a producer rather than just copy tutorials. Even years later, those fundamentals and that mindset are still things I rely on in my day-to-day workflow. Having that grounding early on saved me a huge amount of trial and error, and I’d genuinely recommend Peter to anyone who’s serious about improving their production properly, not just chasing shortcuts."

"The way in which 5X delivers sessions means that it is easy to understand simple and both complex elements of production, quickly. Within a couple of weeks I had already fast tracked so much knowledge, which is down to the depth of understanding that Peter has. Couldn’t recommend highly enough."

"I finally wanted to take my music production seriously and taking lessons from Peter was the perfect start to do so. He is an extremely kind and open person and can probably help you with every direction you want to go with your music. He is not only solving technical problems you may have but he can also support you creatively if you can't even put your struggle in words. All in all I can only recommend reaching out to Peter for whatever musical struggle you are facing."

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a certain level to book a session?

No. I work with producers at different stages, from those still finding their workflow to artists already releasing music. The session is adapted to where you’re currently at, not where you “should” be.

What DAW do you use? Will it work if I use a different one?

I primarily work in Ableton Live, however, I have 8+ years of experience with FL Studio and 3 years of Logic, but the sessions are DAW-agnostic. The focus is on concepts, decision-making, and problem-solving that translate across any DAW.

But these sessions can be done in any of the following DAWs - Ableton Live 12, FL Studio 26, Logic Pro

What time zone are the sessions in?

All sessions are scheduled in UK time (GMT/BST). When booking through Calendly, the available times will automatically adjust to your local time zone, so you can book confidently from anywhere.

What should I prepare before the session?

If you have a track you’re working on, have the project file or WAV ready. If not, come with a clear question or goal. You don’t need to over-prepare we’ll spend the first few minutes aligning on what you want to get out of the session.

Will you work directly on my project or just give feedback?

Both. We can break down your track in detail, make live adjustments where useful, and talk through decisions so you understand why changes work. Not just what to change.

Is this suitable if I’m stuck finishing tracks or mixing?

Yes. These are two of the most common reasons people book. Whether it’s arrangement, balance, or confidence in your decisions, we’ll focus on what’s holding the track back.

Is this more technical or more creative?

It’s a mix of both. Some sessions go deep into technical detail, others focus more on creative direction and workflow or even the psychology of music production. It depends entirely on what you need most right now.

How do the sessions take place?

Sessions are held online via Discord, using screen sharing and audio playback. You’ll receive all the details after booking.

However, if we can use Zoom or Google meet if you wish, but please note the audio playback is worse quality with these.

What’s your cancellation or no-show policy?

Cancellations must be made at least 12 hours before the session for a refund or credit. You can reschedule up to 30 minutes before the session start time. No-shows or late cancellations are non-refundable.

Will one session actually make a difference?

Most people leave with clearer direction, practical improvements to their track, and a better understanding of their own process. One focused session can often save weeks or months of trial and error.
